HELLO. THIS IS KATIE SPEAKING. The artist of this blog. How boring. Anyway, I wanted to answer this question. I promise not to do this often, but I figured something like it would come up sooner or later so… Ahem.
No offense to you, Nullcast, but I find questions like this a little obnoxious. Did you really want the character to reply with some sort of definitive retort? I realize perhaps you’re just asking it for fun, so I do hope I don’t sound entirely defensive and I can (believe it or not) TOTALLY get where you are coming from. It’s not a bad question!
Not that you are critizing, but Yarrow’s design has been criticized for not looking ‘alien’ enough … Though, what that is supposed to mean? As if someone knows what aliens are supposed to look like?
So… Why does this butthole of an alien look so human?! ANSWER! Yarrow’s design is more human so that I (as well as others) can better relate to him in drawings, stories, etc. Perhaps it’s a cop out to attach a few things to a human base and call it an alien, but maybe I’m just not creative enough. Though I guess you could ask Chewbacca, Spock, or the Na’vi the same thing. If everything in the world of ‘make believe’ made perfect sense then it would, for me, take a lot of fun out of things. That is just my two cents.

I don’t think entirely impossible for a planet to have formed in a way that is similar to Earth. Look at all those billions of stars… Maybe there is a planet that revolves around one of them that is not unlike us. Considering all the crazy things that people believe, I don’t think that idea sounds too outlandish.
